Meat pie, Montvale, Queensland, Australia

“Now you’re eating like a real Australian,” said my guide, as I slathered ketchup (which they call “tomato sauce” Down Under) on my pie of minced meat and gravy. Apparently this is to Australians what a burger and fries is to Americans. The flaky crust and savory filling was a bit of all right, I thought to myself, and the plastic plate and utensils only made it feel more outback-y. I was also thankful that I did not have to eat the kangaroo steak that was on the menu next door.
